Preview

The Texas Rangers head to Minneapolis for a Saturday afternoon showdown with the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PM ET on September 26, 2026, with Nathan Eovaldi taking the mound for Texas opposite Twins right-hander Bailey Ober. With the regular season winding down, every game carries weight in the standings, and the Rangers will be leaning on their veteran starter to deliver a quality outing on the road.

Starting Pitchers: Eovaldi vs. Ober

Nathan Eovaldi is a known commodity — a power arm with a track record of performing when the stakes rise. The Rangers are asking him to do exactly that in a late-September road start. Eovaldi works best when he commands his fastball early and keeps hitters off his split, and a patient Twins lineup that works counts will test his discipline from pitch one.

Bailey Ober has the stuff to keep a lineup quiet when he is on. The big right-hander uses his height and extension to generate uncomfortable angles, particularly against right-handed hitters. With Corey Seager, Jake Burger, and Ezequiel Duran all sitting right-handed in the Rangers lineup, Ober will have plenty of matchups to work with. Texas will need its left-handed options — Wyatt Langford and Brandon Nimmo at the top of the order — to set the tone early.

Keys to Watch

Seager and Burger Need to Produce in the Middle

The heart of this Rangers order runs through Corey Seager at three and Jake Burger at cleanup. If Ober can neutralize those two bats, Texas is going to have a long afternoon. Seager's ability to work deep into counts and drive the ball to all fields will be a critical factor in how this game unfolds.

Eovaldi's Command Early

The Twins lineup features some quality contact hitters, and Minnesota will make Eovaldi work. If he falls behind in counts and starts leaving his fastball over the plate, Target Field can be a punishing environment. Keeping Josh Bell and Royce Lewis off the bases in the middle innings is a must.

Evan Carter's Role at the Bottom

Carter batting eighth gives the Rangers an interesting dynamic. When he reaches base, it flips the lineup back to Nimmo and Langford in short order. Carter's on-base ability at the bottom of the order can extend innings and create opportunities for Texas's best hitters to do damage with runners on base.

Prediction

This is a game that figures to be decided by pitching and a handful of big swings. Eovaldi is experienced enough to navigate a tough road environment in late September, and the Rangers offense has the pieces to scratch out enough runs against Ober if Seager and Burger get theirs.
